Theory

This picture represents Nicolaus Copernicus' theory. His theory is that the sun is in EXACTLY the center of the universe. His theory is not correct but is similar to the correct theory. The correct theory is that we have a sun centered universe but the sun isn't exactly in the center.

Birth: February 19, 1473 in Torun, Poland
Death: May 24, 1543 in Frauenburg (now Frombork), Polan
Original name … Mikolaj Kopernik and changed to Nicholaus later

Early Life

• Interested in local politics and became a civic leader and a magistrate in Torun, Poland
• His Father Married Barbra Watzenrode in 1463
• Together they had 4 children, 2 boy and 2 girls, one of the boys was Nicolaus
• When his father died, his uncle Lukas became his guardian

• Received a great education
• Entered university's of Krakow, Bologna, Padua, and Ferra
• Studied Latin, Mathematics, Astronomy, Geography and Philosophy
• Learned to copy manuscripts

• Worked as an assistant to Domenico Maria the Ferrarese of Novara (1454-1504)
• Became a published author with De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium in March 1543
• Taught as a major part of astronomy, which today is astrology, teaching students to study horoscopes

• That there was sun center universe. The sun was in the exact center. He was mostly correct except that the sun is not EXACTLY in the center!
• The planets orbited the Sun in a perfect circle, which is true with some planets except Mercury, Pluto, and Eris (Pluto and Eris are Dwarf Planets).
